The Quality Goes In Before the Color Goes On

Welcome to Rydl Ranch!
Pronounced "riddle"

We are a small breeder of quality horses.  Our goal is to produce intelligent horses with good dispositions, conformation, ability.  Although we are striving for color, quality comes first.  Our focus is on quarter horses and appaloosas --

We started with one breeding stallion, a golden palomino that produced some beautiful colored foals.  Our second colt, lineback dun blanket appaloosa, had several years before he would be old enough to start breeding, but we believe he would have been an outstanding sire.  Unfortunately, 2003 and 2004 were tragic years, as we lost the younger horse in July of 2003, and the palomino in August of 2004.  Both of them can be seen on our memorial page.

We currently have three colts, but they will not be of breeding age for a couple of years.

Our mares have been carefully selected.  Having started mainly with young stock just a few years ago, we were expecting our first foals in 2003, but both pregnant mares lost their foals.  We did have an unexpected surprise in April of 2004, a little filly out of a two year old mare that we had just purchased.  We did not know the mare was pregnant at the time of purchase.  Luckily, mare and filly had no problems.  Look at the 2004 foal page for photos of the baby.

Our herd started with one horse, a 2-1/2 year old palomino stallion that I just fell in love with.  He was a Christmas present from my husband.  Zandy is pictured here grazing with two colts.  He was always very sweet and gentle.  One of our aims is to produce horses with his type of disposition.

Our next horse was a rescue -- a strawberry blanket appaloosa mare, probably over 20 years old, how had practically been starved to death.  We cared for her, fed her, loved her, and she was one of the best horses we have had.  But having a stallion and a mare rekindled my childhood dream of raising horses.  Over the next fews years we worked on acquiring good quality quarter and appaloosa fillies.
